About Us

Victorian Vogue was established in 1987 as an exclusive boutique featuring Victorian Whites. Sonia Hayward, the proprietress, knew buyers who frequented East Germany and imported Victorian linens, garments and finery. After the Berlin Wall came down, Ms. Hayward lost that connection and expanded into vintage clothes and accessories from all decades.

In 1990, a local costume store, Bird Feathers and Fox Fur, was going out of business. Aware of Santa Barbara’s diverse and festive community, Ms. Hayward bought the store’s inventory and The Costume Shoppe joined Victorian Vogue.

In 1997, the store moved to State Street, in the heart of Santa Barbara’s cultural district, where it quickly became a local landmark, catering to all ages, social and economic groups. After a decade, due to the ever-burgeoning increases in rent, we moved to our current location at the top of State Street, where we hope to live happily ever after!

From grammar school and junior high history assignments, to local theater productions to Brooks Institute of photography fashion shoots to UCSB sorority and fraternity theme parties to corporate and wedding functions, our knowledgeable and friendly staff is here to serve the needs of the community, as well as our many visitors to Santa Barbara.
